4 Connection Methods for PoE Switches
1．Both switches and terminals support PoE
In this method, the PoE switch is directly connected to the wireless AP and network camera that support PoE power supply through a network cable. This method is the simplest, but you also need to pay attention to the following two points:
（1）Determine whether the PoE switch, wireless AP or network camera are standard PoE devices
（2）Carefully confirm the specifications of the network cable you purchased. The quality of the network cable is very important. Poor quality network cables will cause the AP or IPC to be unable to receive power or restart continuously.
2．The switch supports PoE, but the terminal does not support PoE
In this solution, the PoE switch is connected to the PoE splitter. The PoE splitter separates the power supply into data signal and power. There are two output lines, one is the power output line, and the other is the network data signal output line, that is, the ordinary network line. The power output is 5V/9/12V, etc., which can match various non-PoE power receiving terminals with DC input, and supports IEEE 802.3af/802.3at standards. The data signal output line, that is, the ordinary network cable, can be directly connected to the network port of the non-PoE powered terminal.
3．The switch does not support PoE, but the terminal supports PoE.
In this solution, the switch comes out to connect to the PoE power supply, and the PoE power supply adds power to the network cable and then transmits it to the terminal. This solution is beneficial to expand the original wiring network and has no impact on the original network.
4．The switch does not support PoE, and the terminal does not support PoE either.
In this solution, the switch is connected to the PoE power supply, then connected to the PoE splitter, and finally transmitted to the terminal. Scheme 3 and Scheme 4 are suitable for the transformation of traditional networks, that is, the original switch does not support PoE power supply, but wants to take advantage of the benefits of PoE power supply.
PoE switch performance advantages
（1）Easy to install
The PoE switch only needs to install and support one cable, simple and space-saving, and the device can be moved freely.
Many live devices, such as video surveillance cameras, etc., need to be installed in places where it is difficult to deploy AC power. PoE eliminates the need for expensive power supplies and the time it takes to install power supplies, saving costs and time.
The PoE power supply end device will only supply power to the device that needs power supply. Only when the device that needs power supply is connected, the Ethernet cable will have voltage, thus eliminating the risk of leakage on the line.
（4）Easy to use
Like data transmission, PoE can monitor and control the device by using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Users can automatically and securely mix legacy and PoE devices on the network, which are able to co-exist with existing Ethernet cabling. In WLAN, PoE can simplify RF test tasks, access points can be easily moved and connected.
（5）Centralized power supply
A single UPS can provide power to all related equipment during a power outage.
（6）Make network equipment easy to manage
Because when the remote device is connected to the network, it can be remotely controlled, reconfigured or reset.
